Question about Johnny Vaughan?

not so long ago johnny was the darling of our screens, from chat shows, to hosting award shows, and now you would need a bloodhound to find any trace of him...im aware that his comedy " orrible " was panned by critics, but i loved it, now being a northerner Johnny's cockney charms won me over when he was doing big breakfast, my theory on his demise from our screens is that he didn't go down to well with southern audiences, am i right or wrong ?
