How to set voice recording as message alert tone?? 10 pts?

if it helps i have a samsung sgh-t639. But yeah i recorded something from the phone's voice recorder and i went into sound profile and set tried to set it as my message alert tone but it wasnt there! I saved it everywhere and even made multiple copies. I found it when i was changing my ringtone but when i tried to change my message alert tone all my music files disappear! it only lets me use the lame default ones. Please help :( thanks
