I am trying to buy a home and the seller has a judgement on his name?

I am trying to purchase a home and it is a short sale. I found out from the county recorder that there is a judgement on the sellers name and currently not on the property. Can this judgement be attached to the property after the close of escrow. Will I be responsible for it later in the future. I just don't want any surprises later. If someone knows this please let me know. thanks
